When writing an obituary it is important to remember that this is in all practical terms a public memorial as well as an invitation to the wake and funeral. The first step in writing an obituary is to know if you are restrained in the number of words you can include. You will want to make sure all information is correct and beware of posting to much as identity theft is on the rise. Once you know your word limit, many papers have a 400 word limit, you can begin composing a list of vital information that must be incorperated. This will also include information about the services such as the date and time of the funeral. Many people find it helpful to use a pre-made template that way they know nothing will be left out. You can get more creative if you wish, just keep in mind that the most important thing is for the obituary to be a reflection of your loved one. Many people keep obituaries for years after and go back to read them and reflect, so it is an honor to write someones obituary and one to be respectfully undertaken.
